Our Pre-Wash Cleaning Checklist & Proven Rug Cleaning Process in Mount Vernon, WA
- Inspect the rug to determine its origin and construction materials: The first piece of the puzzle helps us determine which cleaning process to use. Most Persian, Pakistani, Chinese rugs are good candidates for immersion washing on the other hand many, but not all Afghan rugs cannot be immersed.
- Check the foundation, knots, fringe, kilim, colors, patterns, pile fiber, and pile density: This step tells us how we’re going to proceed with dusting your rug. If it’s heavily worn or in need of repair, it will not be a candidate for our Big Blue tumble duster. We will use another method. Also with heavy wear the rug will be identified for extra gentle handling during the washing.
- Dust the rug to remove debris and particulate matter: We have three pieces of equipment we use for dusting rugs prior to rug cleaning. Our Big Blue tumble duster, the Rug Badger and for the heavily worn rugs a commercial vacuum.
- Select the correct shampoo by evaluating colorfastness and PH: We have several wool safe cleaning shampoos approved for washing wool rugs. Each rug is tested for the correct shampoo. These products are as gentle as baby shampoo.
- Apply the proper cleaning solution for rug immersion: The rug is laid flat in a vat, totally immersed, and gently agitated to release soiling and grime.
- Fresh Water Rinsing: The soiling and grime have been suspended in the water been the vat is drained and filled with fresh water for a complete rinse. A residue free process.
- Thoroughly dry the rug before returning it to you: We have huge racks, high ceilings, dehumidification, and heat, where your rug is hung to dry in a controlled atmosphere. Rugs are dry in 24 hours.
